Are you and FMS’er or a FOMO?

Posted by Michelle on June 24, 2008

I had  three girls over for a late lunch on Saturday – a pre-party before listening to some cool music at the Chapel of Chimes Mausoleum summer solstice event – a fab event I might add. Anyway, while munching and chitchatting away we got into the discussion of material wealth and of course I brought up my blog entry from last week, ‘Do I own things or…’

I have to say I am very lucky….I have so many groups of really diverse awesome women that I hang with.  And I can tell you this particular group unlike other groups I hang with, is not about the ‘material girl’.  Not that they don’t like beautiful things or desire wealth, – who doesn’t? But, accumulating wealth is not the priority. Yeah…all of these women, who happen to be single, are all pretty self sufficient, most of them are super creative, and not one of them owns a house.   Not that you can’t be all of the above and have money but that’s not my point No…this group doesn’t try to keep up with the Joneses, not their style. Their main competition if you want to call it that, is in regards to ‘fun’ and ‘enjoying life’, and they do an amazing job with little dough and a huge dose of creativity and collaboration.  Ah…Now we’re talkin’.

Terra whom I have spoken about before and whom some of you have met, explains it this way. She says that no one in their group of friends, people that they usually hang with, (I am a usual but not a core part of this group),  don’t compete for personal abundance (All though I have to say quite a few of them are rolling in it!). ‘The competition is all about how much fun we’re going to have and just how many parties in a week are we going to attend?’  And the biggie question…’who had the most fun at which party?’ She says it with a big grin and I know it is true because I have experienced this competitiveness in her and her huge circle of friends. I find it quite amusing but believe me, it is always a trip, and most of the time a blast into the past – some of these people are San Francisco 60’s Beatniks and rich hippies, who never left the scene.   We try to attend whatever event Terra and the group invites us too. I stay out of the competition but I sure like to party with them.

Oh one last thing…the point of this blog entry: They describe themselves as FMS’ers: Fear of missing something’ and the latest: FOMO’s or ‘fear of missing out’. Because of these ‘titles’ hardly anyone does a no show in fear of the obvious…I think it’s hilarious.

Are you one of these? Or do you have another acronym that describes you? Do tell!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tal:  You bet!  You know I am ready for a little chat on the Climax with Azza. I contacted her yesterday to let her know, but not sure if she is receiving it in real time. When you talk to her please let her know I am available anytime.  Just try to give me at least a 30 minutes heads – up if you can. Thanks.

Hi Sparkle: Interesting topic choice for your blog – good luck with it!

Zen Lill:  Will do!

Hi Al:  So sorry to hear that your prep was keeping you down. Sounds like you went through an awful bout. I hope that it is finally over.  I wish I could’ve given you a heads up earlier but I was not aware of your happenings until I blogged it. So you must be excited?!  But….

Al….we need to talk…I have had a quite a few emails in regards to your comment.  So….it seems from what you have written that you are disclosing the info that you and Howie, OUR Howie is your house mate? Or am I reading this wrong? I know that there is a man named Howard that you live with/take care of.  Are we all now privy to the fact that Howard is actually Howie?  Please confirm or deny and clear it up here. Thanks.

Back to bed to snuggle…:>)

Gratefully your blog host,

Hi Michelle, I have to say, I was out with a few FMS’s on Fri night, not my deal…amount of parties and who had more fun just doesn’t even require a calculation or any amount of competition on any level for me, though much like you I LOVE having fun and FMO’s usually run great parties due to the aforementioned : ) so I will always participate when the offer is made. I am a TPIWIA (the party is wherever I am) hahaha…

Today @ http://edgy1.wordpress.com/ ‘Yeah, about that Patriot Act & um, relationships (Ed, you out there?)’
Anonz, you are getting a lot of things off your chest lately, good for you, glad I can supply a space for you to voice your changing/long held beliefs, I’m into reading all of it, thansk for sharing.
Ed googles relationship issues so I thought that title would get him back for some chit chat, I think he’s feeling one upped by and totally jealous of Anonz! How very ‘Martian’ of him, hahaha…I do hope he gets over it.

TAO: I am Howie’s roommate and caregiver. As thrilled that I am about being selected ( and don’t you think it would have been a good idea to tell me something prior to your barrage of tests and adjustments, or whatever the fuck you’ve been doing to me lately, that has had me feeling like shit) I will have to DECLINE any offers to board the Climax if Howie is being excluded. I never even dreamed of this scenario, and have always considered myself the tag-along.

I am sorry we wasted each others time. You have known that Howie is my friend the entire time, did you think for a minute that I could just leave him here. Whatever kind of game this was for you, or experiment, “how could you possibly choose me to go and then exclude Howie?” In his present physical condition, and with his news of possible, and likely liver cancer, not to mention diabetes, my place is right here.

Perhaps I have misunderstood something here. But be clear of this, unless Howie is going, Al Ain’t Going Nowhere. I am not expressing an ultimatum here, but Howie’s recent removal from the flight list has made it impossible for me to accept your gracious invitation. Please inform me if things change.

I really wish things could have worked out differently. I should have known better from past experience.

Please remove anything that may have been implanted in me.

    Regretfully yours,
    Al

Michelle: You may inform your readers that I am indeed Howie’s roomate, and thanks for all your good works. I will still be commenting from time to time. See Ya Later.

Zen Lill: Hi, You been OK lately?

You are one good human, Al. I’m glad to know you even if it’s only here, the fact that you consider anothers’ needs before making a plan of a lifetime for yourself, that’s sweet and shows true devotion to a pal. I hope Tao reconsiders their offer and takes you and Howie.

Look I’ve decided to write you here because I can feel less like a cad for wanting to lust after you. There I’ve said it. If you are offended, it’s has not been said on your blog. But I mean it. I wouldn’t pursue you against your will.

I know I’m not so pretty now, but somehow I don’t think that is your click. Hey, you’re a married woman. What is a man who professes to be honorable(if you have to claim it, can you really be honorable?) doing courting a happily married woman.

Okay, okay, already, I stand as the everyday American movie fan. If the starlet is married or not, he can still drool over the coveted beauty. So why should the standards be different for the internet blog starlet.

You got it going on sweetness and I am an unabashed groupie. I, like any move star groupie, have your picture on my wall. But never fear, I, like the movie star groupie, am harmless. I just admire you from a distance. That having been said. How about acting like your movie star counter parts and send your fans more pictures.

Explain to the loving and protecting and oh, oh, so lucky husband of yours that the movie star hubby takes it all in stride. Tell him, “it’s the business baby.”
