The Positivity Pledge

Posted by Michelle on September 22, 2008

We are all aware by now and certainly more recently of how little we are privy to when it comes to our government and their sleazy relationships with the big corps. How what we are told is rarely the truth. And as Tommy Smothers said at the Emmy’s last night. ‘Truth is . . . what you get other people to believe.’ Our government relies on that big time.

We can’t sit back and be complacent like we have been.  Why are we, the people, not rising up and coming together? Are we so busy stuck behind our computer screens or texting until our fingers are numb, that we have forgotten what it is like to come together as a community and fight for the things that we believe in? I keep having visions of the 60’s when people banned together against the Vietnam war, standing up against our government.  Where is that energy and passion that shouts that we won’t take this anymore?

Loyal readers:  Its time. If you have not done so already, it’s time to spread the word spread the word about the information that you have learned here. Tell your friends and family.  if you don’t know how to articulate it, print it out or direct them to my blog and ask them to read it. Open up the conversation.

If you are questioning anything you have read, do the research. We have the internet – the biggest library and fastest way to get information. Get involved. Maybe, just maybe, if enough people hear the truth, something will start to percolate and who knows what could happen. There is power in numbers. But we can’t just sit here thinking ,’Oh shit!’, and then head to Starbucks for another latte.

I want to continue to be informed no matter how much I dislike hearing the truth, but knowing the truth is the only way to make informed choices. We will have no one else to blame but ourselves if we do nothing.  However, that being said, I want to be aware of the challenges, but I want to focus on the ideas and solutions, AND keep a positive outlook. So in keeping with just that….

One of my ’sources’ (Thanks Domie!) sent me this the other day and being that it is Monday, the beginning of the week, I decided that it was the perfect day to post.  Why not start it off on a positive note.  It has been intense this past week and maybe we could all use a daily ‘positivity pledge’. This was submitted on the Obama website by a woman in Chicago. Please join in this pledge if you feel so inspired or write one that resonates with you.

The Positivity Pledge (Community Service)

This is an ongoing event.

We may all have different religious or spiritual beliefs, but what we have in common is the power to create positive change through our thoughts and actions. More importantly, we create our own realities as a direct result of these thoughts and actions.

This is why I have taken a pledge to spend at least 5 minutes of every single day from now until November to send powerful, positive energy to Barack Obama and his campaign by clearly visualizing our candidate as President of the United States .

Please join me in taking this pledge (feel free to add your own ideas to the list—and feel free to share your ideas with me) :

♣ I pledge that I will only focus on the positive throughout this entire election.

I pledge that I will not disseminate negative, hurtful, or character-damaging messages of any kind.

I pledge to spend at least five minutes every day thinking positively about all the great things Barack Obama will do as President of the United States.

I pledge that I will rise above the divisive politics that others choose to engage in by not lowering myself to such behavior or thought patterns.

Thank you, Everyone!

YES WE CAN!!!

***********

Ah…that feels good.  Collective energy, as well as visualization, is a powerful thing.  I like the above. For me, I might have to word it a bit differently but you get the point. However, let it be known that I have a blog and getting out the ‘truth’ is important regardless of whether it is positive or negative.  And really even if the ‘truth’ appears to be a negative thing, in my mind, it should only be viewed as positive if it enlightens us and empowers us to make the decisions that bring about the changes that are needed.

Hi Adam:  Welcome back! Any chance I can go with you sometime on one of your journeys? If not soon, how about another chat? I enjoyed the last one so much. Speaking of…Earthling Girls…I miss you all too. How goes it?

Oh and Adam…No, I really do not want to know what our future holds. Besides it is a parallel earth which as I understand occurrences may or may not happen here as they have there. Why create worry and chaos over something that may not happen and if it did, I don’t want it in my conscious or for that matter the collective conscious. Nope…don’t want to create anything we don’t want. Lastly, nor do I want to know where Doug and I are going to live. Now what fun would that be? :) Thanks for offering though.

Anonz: In regards to your comment: A. The Truth 1: if one has more than $100,000 to deposit in a savings account. He should know to put the balance up to $100,000 in a different bank company so that he could continue to take advantage of the FDIC guarantee. I thought AH implied that when he said, ‘If he has more, then he should have been more careful.’ But yes for the really stupid Americans out there, spelling it out as you did might be best. I appreciate your attention to detail – thanks for the clarifications.

ZL: Give a big hello back to Lisa! – didn’t know she was out and about. Hope you two are having fun!

Hi Nattie: Very well said. Welcome to the land of opportunity.

Hello Sophie:  I know your comment was to Joe…but your statement, ‘They call Obama an ungrateful nigger because all this country has given him and his people he would pay us back by trying to be it president.‘ Wha’at?! I’ve never heard of anything so ridiculous.

Jack:  Your comment is laughable.  FYI: Wake up and get real. If you’re calling him an ‘N’, you’re a racist.  And my bet is that is why you are not voting for Obama.

Susan: Your remark, ‘He can’t help that he’s black.’ (?!) Like its a negative to be black….Like saying, ‘Oh he can’t help that he’s crippled, poor man!’ Ugh!!  No one has control over the color they are that’s why it is crazy to judge one by it. Color doesn’t mean anything. Oh how different the world would be if we were all blind. And, what do you mean the ‘white part of him could come out’? What is that supposed to mean? Like the ‘white part’ is better than the ‘black part’? – Get real here. Yes, bigotry at its best.

Clark:  You got that right. Our government could care less if the American people were able to own a home, otherwise they would be doing everything they could in order for people to be able to keep the ones they are losing.

Peace out peeps…have a good Monday.

Gratefully your blog host,

Quote of the week from a man out of touch.

Posted by Michelle on September 16, 2008

So…how’s everyone doing out there? I am particularly asking those that have been struck by yesterday’s financial disaster:

‘The Dow Jones industrial average lost more than 500 points, more than 4 percent, its steepest point drop since the day the stock market reopened after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.  About $700 billion evaporated from retirement plans, government pension funds and other investment portfolios.’

Lehman brothers has filed the largest bankruptcy in American history and Merrill Lynch was rescued by Bank Of America. And one man says the economy is doing great. Ahhh…okay.

Although Greenspan says this is the worse economy he has even seen,  McCain has the audacity to say that the fundamentals of the economy are still strong. Wha’at?!  What planet is he on?….And more succinctly as Obama asked, Sen. McCain, what economy are you talking about?’ Yeah, what economy is he talking about?  The economy of the top 4%; the big wig earners?  Certainly not the everyday average person, and certainly not all of the people whose retirements plans and pension funds have evaporated.

Open your eyes. What world does McCain live in? Does he not realize that inflation is rising, real wages are declining, and that people are still foreclosing on their homes?  Oh yeah…remember, he said that he was ‘out of touch’

‘It’s easy for me to be in Washington and frankly be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.’

-Sen. John McCain

If you ask me, there is no excuse for him to be out of touch. Not while he’s in the running for the presidential position. I bet McCain wishes he never opened his mouth on that one. Well, we can certainly count on a few more ‘priceless and enlightening quotes’ for the text books…He didn’t lie when he said the economy isn’t something he understands as well as he should. You got that right John. You’ve proven that.

Sen. McCain, what more will you reveal to us in the coming weeks?

Readers:  Any of you hit personally by this? Comments? Thoughts? Rants? Blog me.

Women against Sarah Palin

Posted by Michelle on September 10, 2008

I’m just going to roll with it again today. I got blasted with the below email from girlfriends and I just had to pass it along.  I figure if I am getting an email this many times from women who aren’t even connected to each other then something big must be going on.  Here’s the email:

Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters,

We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet.

We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and altogether devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin’s political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we’ve so demonstrably benefited from.

First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.

Therefore, we invite you to reply here mail to:womensaynopalin@gmail.com with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation. Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence.

We will post your responses on a blog called “Women Against Sarah Palin,” which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience.  The greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.

Thank you for your time and action.

VIVA!

Sincerely,

Quinn Latimer and Lyra Kilston
New York, NY
womensaynopalin@gmail.com mailto:womensaynopalin@gmail.com

**PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY! If you send this to 20 women in the next hour, you could be blessed with a country that takes your concerns seriously. Stranger things have happened.

Thoughts?

What I like about this letter is that it is so right on. It expresses what I feel and obviously what so many other women feel.  I’m not a mother nor do I plan to be one but that doesn’t mean that I don’t care about my rights as a woman.  You all have heard me bitch about this enough to know my thoughts on this. So ‘It isn’t anything personal Sarah Palin, although personally I would like to slap you in the face. After all that is what you are doing to the women who fought so hard for our rights that we have today.’

Like I said in the past, and I don’t mind repeating myself: Do the republicans think that just because Palin is a woman that any woman will do? How insulting.  Now, I know I have said before when many of you thought that Hillary wasn’t the right woman to run the country, that Hillary, although a qualified woman, certainly couldn’t do any worse than any man we’ve elected.  Let’s give her a chance to prove herself. We’ve let lesser men run this country, including our current President. And many of my girlfriends still said no. But this woman, this Palin, she is like Bush in a woman’s body. Forget about a pit bull wearing lipstick…she’s Bush in drag….and looking pretty good. Take out the ‘L’ in Palin and she could be a huge ‘Pain’. How can women in their right mind even consider her?!

So if you want to give your two, email these girls. I wish that the email had included the blog address but it didn’t,  so I decided to take a chance and google ‘Women against Sarah Palin’. And to my surprise there were quite a few websites/blogs that had varying names: ‘Women against Sarah Palin’, ’Women against Palin’  Wow, people, especially women (no surprise) are really not liking this woman. With a little bit more perseverance I did finally find the blog where this original letter came from.

I will add that after reading a few readers comments, a post was made on the blog on the 8th, addressing corrections that Quinn and Lyra had made in the letter. In all fairness, I wanted to also include it also in my post today:

Dear readers,

Because we are disgusted and disheartened by the smear-campaigns, exaggerations, and outright lies that are so prevalent in our political landscape, we want to clarify two facts that we got wrong.

In our initial letter, sent out on Wednesday night, we stated that Governor Palin fired the librarian in Wasilla. In fact, while she did send the librarian a termination letter, after great public dissent (i.e. community organizing), she retracted it.

Secondly, Ms. Palin is not anti-birth control. She is a member of FFI, Feminists for Life, an anti-abortion, pro-birth control organization.

We apologize.

Unfortunately, during her speech at the Republican Convention last week, Ms. Palin read from a script that contained many egregious falsehoods about her opponent’s record, intentions, and policies. We hope that she too (or her scriptwriters at any rate) might have the integrity to come forward and admit their errors.

But we won’t hold our breath.

Lyra & Quinn

Lastly, this original letter was sent to 40 women on September 3rd and by yesterday, the girls above claim they have received more than 40,000 responses – way to go!  I have yet to email my thoughts but I will – how about you?

Are you wired for sex?

Posted by Michelle on August 31, 2008

Talk about taking the romance and spontaneity out of sex…not to mention getting a bit tangled in the cord….there is a new device for women out there all in the name of better sex. Better? Well like I said the cord might get in the way but if a more intense orgasm is what you’re seeking, this little device may be for you. Now before you get excited, this orgasm aid won’t give you one, sorry you’ll need your other play toy, either the ‘man’ or the ‘vibrator’ for that ‘area’,  but when you’re ready to start moaning,  you might end up screaming. Hmm…I’m starting to like this.

Not sure I buy it though, but this is how it works:

Just hook up the electrode pads of the ‘Slightest Touch’ to your ankles  (Yes both of them – Oh, this is getting quite complicated.) and when it’s your ‘turn’, you’ll get an extra boost in that pleasure zone: A painless electrical pulse travels up the leg’s nerve pathways to the pelvis, creating peak arrousal. Supposedly ‘Slightest Touch’  multiplies, intensifies, and basically improves your climaxes. Okay…now we’re talkin’. Believe it or not this started out as a failed prototype for a foot massage.  Hmm…I wonder what they were doing while testing out this foot massage? Oh…but we’re not done here. You need to do one more little thing before you actually engage in sex using this sex aid: They suggest…downing one of those sport drinks. You’ve got to be kidding – Really? Now, this is just getting too weird.

What happened to just good ‘ol straight, kinky sex? Well I guess if your orgasms aren’t thrilling you and leaving you totally satisfied, or if  they haven’t been making you moan and shudder in ecstasy, this little device just might come in handy. Or perhaps…you need to work on your sex life with your mate…or as a last resort, find a new man. But for me, no.  I think I’ll stick to the basics…besides, I’ve never been good with cords….Silk scarves? Now we’re talkin’ :)

But hey, if this sounds like something you would enjoy, it might be worth it. For a hundred bucks you’re guaranteed to have the most incredible orgasms you have ever had, or your money is fully refunded. Okay, so maybe it is worth a try eh? If you purchase one – Blog me – I’d love to hear if it really works. :)

______________

Hi Anon, Doug, ZL: Oh I wish this was a joke. I agree with all of you, and the more I learn about this woman, the more I think, this is preposterous. Is McSame going insane? And why isn’t anyone questioning his sanity – or are they?

Anon, thanks for bringing up her animal tactics. I was aware of her hunting activities but not about the bounty on wolf legs. This makes me ill.  I had to dive deeper and see what the heck is up with this woman in this area. Stay tuned.

Hello Fatemeh:  Thanks for the personal email. Again, no apologies are necessary. I understand; it is a very sensitive subject. Peace.
